NICK Boulton is being recalled by Worcestershire for their County Championship Division Two match against Warwickshire which opens at Edgbaston tomorrow.

The 22-year-old former Somerset batsman takes over from broken toe victim Paul Pollard.

Boulton has made only two Championship appearances so far this season, the last being early last month in the County's innings and three run victory over Derbyshire at Derby.

Pollard could be out for ten days after picking up his injury in Worcestershire's CricInfo Championship game with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

It ended in a 61-run defeat which, coupled by their seven wicket reversal against Durham in the previous match, provided a massive setback to the County's promotion hopes.

On Sunday, skipper Graeme Hick's men had their bid to be promoted from the Norwich Union League Division Two dented with a 33-run defeat against Essex at Chelmsford.

New Road Director of Cricket Tom Moody said: "It's important we get our Championship run back. We have had two very disappointing defeats. On both occasions we have been in positions where we should have taken the game, but for various reasons along the way we have let the opposition back in."

Returning to the County's Championship squad for the short trip to Edgbaston will be all-rounder Stuart Lampitt, who was rested for the Notts game after being troubled by a knee injury.

The Championship match against the 'Old Enemy' at New Road in mid-June ended in a rain-ruined draw.

Warwickshire will have monitored the progress of Nick Knight before deciding on their side to face Worcestershire.

He suffered blow to the head by an Andrew Caddick delivery during the Bears four wicket defeat against Somerset in last weekend's Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy semi-final at Taunton.

They are already without Ashley Giles (Achilles), Dominic Ostler (elbow) and Melvyn Betts (side muscle) for the rest of the season.
