INDOOR rower Anna Bailey of Hanley Swan has recently added two further records to her existing British Championship Women's 45-49 Heavy-weight and British 50-59 Women's Heavyweight 2000 metre distances.

At the One On One Fitness Centre in Evesham, Anna set a new 5000 metre British record of 19 minutes 25.3 seconds, knocking nearly a minute and a half off the existing record, the only person in her category in the world rankings to go sub-20 minutes this year.

At One On One's Malvern gym, she set a new 10,000 metre British record of 39 minutes 11.9 seconds, taking over four minutes off the previous record, again the only person in her category to go sub-40 minutes this year.

Both of these records come on top of recent successes in competitions. At the West of England Championships, she took first place at 2000 metres in a time of 7 minutes 23 seconds which was also the fastest overall women's time and first place in the 500 metre dash against all other age groups in one minute 39.9 seconds, a personal best.

At the South West Scotland IRC, she achieved first place and the fastest overall women's time in the 2000 metres in 7 minutes 20.4 seconds, only 1.8 seconds outside her own British record, an excellent mid-season time.

Last week Anna teamed up with Jane Fisher, Sylvia Speechley and Janet Parker in a successful challenge at One On One in Worcester to the Women's Team 60 minute row record and plans are afoot for an attempt on the Mixed Team 60 minute record.

Rowers are currently heading towards the final phase of training for the next British Championship's, which will be held for the first time at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham on November 18 and should attract over 2,000 entries.
