EVERTON boss Walter Smith will decide later today whether Paul Gascoigne travels with an Everton XI for their friendly against Hereford United at Edgar Street tomorrow (3pm).

The former England star has played just 10 minutes of pre-season football and is battling for fitness after sustaining a thigh injury, but Smith hinted earlier this week that he could play tomorrow if he is fit.

First team players, Danny Cadamarteri, Thomas Myhre and former Rangers star, Alec Cleland have been named in the Toffees squad along with several promising youngsters.

Winger Jimmy Quiggin and striker Gavin Williams remain Hereford's biggest injury worries on the eve of the clash.

One Bulls' player eagerly anticipating the match is summer signing, Mark Williams, who is an avid Everton fan, and was on their books as a youngster.

"I didn't know we were playing Everton but I'm made up but I think half of them will be cheering Hereford on because I'm playing," he said.

Williams was also hoping Gazza would be in the line-up.

"He's my idol I've got his tops from training," he said.

"I was going to watch them last season and Gazza was unbelievable, even if he plays half a season he will be great benefit to Everton."

Hereford kick-off their Nationwide Conference campaign at home to Barnet next Saturday (12 noon).
