A "TIME-warp" Victorian garden in the heart of Worcester is being opened to the public to raise money for a Malvern church.

Cash paid by visitors to the garden at 6 Rose Terrace, Fort Royal Hill, will go to the tower repair fund at Little Malvern Priory.

The walled garden will only be open for one day on Thursday, August 23, from 2pm to 6pm.

It was discovered by William and Julia Scott when they moved into their new home and began to hack away at the three-metre-high forest of brambles and trees.

They uncovered the original 1886 garden layout, including the remains of a vinery and an astronomical observatory. The couple are gradually reclaiming the gardens from the undergrowth and restoring it as a quiet haven in the centre of the city.

The Scotts are friends with Bob Steel, churchwarden at the Little Malvern Priory, which is why they are holding the fundraising day.

Little Malvern Priory was named last week by world-famous cellist Julian Lloyd-Webber as the place where he would like to be buried after he dies.

He says was influenced by his love of the area and its connections with his favourite composer Elgar, who is buried in nearby St Wulstan's RC Church.
