I WRITE in reference to a letter by Ian Morris (Postbag, July 27).

I cannot forbear to make comment on this long letter which includes many misconceptions. There are many things wrong with the European Commission, particularly its lack of democratic accountability.

I, like Muriel Pushman, (Postbag June 29) grew up at a time when this country was a great power and when the behaviour of society was different. I am afraid we cannot turn the clock back. Times have changed we are no longer a major power and must combine with other countries to make our voice heard and to co-operate in matters of mutual interest.
