Worcestershire made slow progress before finally edging in front in their County Championship Division Two clash with Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge today.

Resuming on 130-3 in reply to the home side's 149, it took 10 overs before Anurag Singh hit Nadeem Malik for four to take the County ahead.

After 44 overs of their innings the County were on 155-3 with Singh on 68, his best Championship score for the County. With David Leatherdale unbeaten at the other end on 25, they were confident of building up a big lead.

Yesterday, seamer Alamgir Sheriyar claimed four wickets in a devastating 12-ball spell as Nottinghamshire were bowled out in a session.

The left-armer revelled in bowler-friendly overcast conditions and caused repeated problems with his movement through the air.

With a fine spell from the Pavilion End after lunch he single-handedly reduced the home side from a comfortable 73-0 to 93-4, with the last three wickets coming in one over.

As wickets continued to fall, the home side were dismissed before tea for 149 -- their lowest score at Trent Bridge this season.

The game looked to be headed in a different direction when, after rain claimed the first hour, Notts openers John Morris and Darren Bicknell battled well against the new ball to reach 52 without loss at lunch.

Morris was dropped three times, but his partner went first, edging Sheriyar to Graeme Hick at second slip for 23.

Morris completed a typically aggressive half-century from 75 balls with 11 fours before he chopped the first ball of Sheriyar's 11th over on to his wicket.

Usman Afzaal offered no shot to the next delivery and was hit smack in front and while Paul Johnson survived the hat-trick ball, he had his middle peg uprooted by the next.

Notts' hopes faded when Greg Blewett was bowled by Leatherdale for 31. The all-rounder also claimed the wickets of Andrew Harris and Greg Smith to finish with three for 31 from a very tidy 10-over spell of medium pace bowling.

In response, Worcestershire's batsmen made light of the difficult conditions and had the scoreboard rattling along with Singh in fine form.
