STONE gained maximum points for the first time this season when they beat Worcester Corinthians by 93 runs in Worcestershire League Division Five.

The visitors invited Stone to bat and the villagers made steady progress but also lost wickets at regular intervals.

Most batsmen contributed as Alan Ferguson top scored with 31 and skipper Gary Bourke made 28.

Stone were all out for 165 with S Ali claiming 6-58 from his 18 overs.

But their seam attack proved too strong for the visitors with Matt Tyrrell removing opener Hill cheaply through a good John Meredith catch.

Corinthians were reduced to 41-5 in the 12th over and never looked likely to reach their target with only three batsmen achieving double figures.

Tyrrell (3-13), Pete Durnell (3-24), Ferguson (2-6) and Bourke (2-28) all took wickets.

Keeper Keith Harrington enjoyed success with four catches and a sharp stumping.

Stone batted first for the friendly visit of neighbours Blakedown on Sunday.

They were soon reduced to 52-8 by a combination of good bowling and indifferent shot selection.

However, Pete Glover salvaged the innings, putting on 43 with Geoff Smith for the ninth wicket and 67 with skipper Don Aldridge.

Glover hit his 100th run off the last ball of the innings, his unbeaten century coming in 85 minutes from 87 balls and leaving Stone on 162-9.

Blakedown suffered early losses and were reduced to 29-5 after nine overs.

Despite 54 from Chatwin, they were bowled out for 95, 67 runs short of their target.

Bob Batsford took 3-9, Tyrrell 3-11 and Durnell 2-27.
