AN Abberley primary school is helping blind people to relive their childhood through song with the recording of poems written by a former teacher.
Valerie Powick, who is a member of Stourport Writers' Cycle, spent 25 years teaching at Abberley Parochial VC Primary School, retiring in 1989.
Her collection of poems, which recollects a childhood in a quieter world, celebrates the special events in the life of a child including birthdays, Halloween and Pancake Day.
A fellow member has set the cycle of poems to music.
A group of nine and 10-year-olds have been rehearsing the songs for several weeks with the school's music teacher, Jen Guest and a recording of the songs is due to be made today at Stourport Library.
The results will be distributed throughout the county as a talking book for the blind.
Mrs Guest added: "The songs really do capture the essence of childhood in any era and our young singers have really enjoyed working on this project."
