A TRAVELLING salesman drove twice the legal speed limit as he made his way to work.
Reginald Sharratt was clocked by police driving an average 83.33mph on the A449 at Powick. The speed limit is 40mph.
Magistrates at Droitwich yesterday spared the 43-year-old from a disqualification after they heard he had an impeccable driving record.
Sharratt, who has been driving for 24 years covers an average 2,000 miles a week in his work with Aztec.
On Friday, May 18, around 6.45am he was driving in his T-reg VW Golf.
"He was stopped and cautioned by police and he said 'I've something else on my mind'," said Charles Hardy, prosecuting.
Sharratt, representing himself, told magistrates that he knew the road "very well".
"I cover the whole of the UK and need to keep my licence."
After his court appearance he was due to fly out to Ireland on business and said if he was disqualified he would not be able to go.
The divorcee, of Merton Road, Malvern, was given six penalty points and fined £500. He was also ordered to pay £50 costs.
