PUPILS donned trainers and shorts for a festival held by sixth form sports studies students at Pershore High.

The youngsters came from Pinvin, Abbey Park and Drakes Broughton middle schools to enjoy an array of sporting activities such as basketball, football and orienteering at the school.

The Top Link Sports Festival was sponsored by Top Link Insurance and ran from 10am to 4pm yesterday.

The result was a fun day out for the children who will be joining Pershore High in the new school year.

The aim was to introduce the children to the school in a less formal and more relaxed way making the transition from middle school easier.

"They had a great time," said Clive Corbett, deputy head of Pershore High.

"We were fortunate with the weather. It is a fantastic achievement to think that a group of 17-year-olds entertained a group of youngsters all day without them getting bored."

It was also smiles all round when Acorns Playgroup held its annual sports races yesterday.

Teams of toddlers joined the summer fun in the grounds of St Matthew's Church, Lichfield Avenue, Ronkswood.

Mums, siblings and friends cheered the youngsters on in an array of races run between 11am and 11.45am.
