WINGER John Goodwin grabbed an injury-time try to give Worcester Rugby Club's second team a dramatic 31-24 victory at Cinderford last night.

Two minutes from the end of normal time, Worcester were trailing 17-24 to a Cinderford team which used their powerful pack to give the Sixways side an uncomfortable evening.

But Worcester drove for the line from a line-out with Dave Sims being credited with the score as the maul collapsed and stand-off Steve Ward kicked the conversion to level matters at 24-24.

It looked as though the game was going to finish all-square before Nick Martin's break was continued by Ed Orgee. Worcester won quick ruck ball and Ward's cross-kick was hacked on by Tom Beechey for Goodwin to win the race for the loose ball.

Ward added the conversion points and the referee's whistle blew as Worcester won a game they looked likely to lose.

Worcester had swept into an early lead through Beechey's try in the corner only for Cinderford to capitalise on Worcester errors for a try by scrum-half Jeremy Bennett, converted by Matt Sherratt.

Worcester went in front again when flanker Aaron Brown plunged over, but Cinderford regained the lead through number eight Adrian Knox.

The back row forward was on hand to make the visitors pay when they were caught as they tried to run the ball out of defence.

Twenty minutes into the second half Orgee and Ward converted but Cinderford levelled matters through Sherratt.

Ten minutes from the end wing Clyan Andrews powered through several attempted tackles and looked to have won the game for Cinderford but Worcester rallied to snatch victory.
