NICK Baxter announced his return to Worcester Rugby Club's first team in stunning style with a double try burst which sealed a 31-19 win at Otley.

The Sixways' golden boy put the visitors on their way with a try on seven minutes and then, with Worcester trailing 16-14 in the second-half, scored a superb second to keep the Gold'n'Blues top of National One.

With Leeds Tykes winning 38-25 at neighbours Wakefield,it was crucial Worcester not only won but collected the bonus point at Cross Green.

However, the struggling Yorkshire outfit, who have recently come off the back of seven straight defeats, shocked their illustrious visitors by taking the lead early in the second-half as an upset looked on the cards.

Baxter though had other ideas as he ran in his second try mid-way through the half to cap a fine comeback from the Sixways wilderness.

The 27-year-old, starting his first game since October, looked back to his unstoppable best as he stormed past tackles with a powerful display.

And the flying winger was delighted to be part of the set-up again after a frustrating time this season.

He said: "It was great to be part of the squad again and go with the boys for an away match. You feel a little bit on the periphery as anyone in the second team does. It's nice to be back."

The comeback, however, was tarnished slightly by Baxter's first yellow card of his career after a mistimed tackle on Otley full-back Ian Shuttleworth.

"I was very disappointed to be sin-binned because that is a career first. The player wrong footed me and my foot just came out and I've tripped him up but there was nothing malicious -- it was just unfortunate.

"Overall though I am really happy with the two tries. The boys had to battle and we achieved our objective."

Sixways' director of coaching Adrian Skeggs was also delighted with Baxter's comeback, but insisted the player had to recreate that form next week.

He said: "I think he was the best player on the paddock. Every time he got the ball he made yards because he wanted it, he was hungry. However, he's got to want it next week and the week after."

Skeggs though was less impressed with the overall performance.

"I thought our forwards let us down today because Otley really got into us.

"However, the good thing was we came back and showed a bit of fight to not only win the game but get the bonus point as well."
