WORCESTER Rugby Club today added two new signings to their squad.

London Welsh centre Andy Currier and former England full-back David Pears have both signed contracts until the end of the season.

Neither are available for Monday's Tetley's Bitter Cup clash against London Irish but could figure in the crucial top of the table Premiership Two clash at home to Leeds five days later.

Currier, aged 33, is a former British Lions rugby league international and is no stranger to Worcester having played against them five times in the past three seasons.

Pears celebrated his 37th birthday earlier this month and started his career at Sale before enjoying ten seasons at Harlequins where he earned four England caps.

He played once at the Stoop last season to solve an injury crisis, but then returned to Jewson National League Wharfedale.

Meanwhile, Malvern's Boxing Day friendly against Worcester was left in disarray after just eight Worcester players turned up.

The game was only made possible by coaxing seven spectators, including Upton prop Shaun Lancett, into kit and onto the pitch.

But the mixed Worcester XV were soon overwhelmed by Malvern who scored a resounding 61-17 victory at Spring Lane.

"It was disappointing Worcester arrived short, but I was pleased with the showing of Malvern lads on both sides," said Malvern's Director of Rugby Dave Robins.

Worcester decided to send a third team to Spring Lane. Team manager Steve Tustin was unavailable for comment today.

n Kidderminster Carolians beat Old Halesonians 34-15 on Monday and the highlight of the match was a hat-trick of tries for winger Eddie Ross.
