ADRIAN Skeggs has admitted for the first time that he could be facing the axe if Worcester Rugby Club lose at Leeds on Sunday.

The Sixways director of coaching was only appointed in the summer, but feels he may be out the door if his side fail to win promotion to the Premiership.

National One leaders Wor-cester travel to Headingley on Sunday for the crunch clash with second-placed Leeds, a team who have become favourites to overtake Skeggs' men in recent months.

The Yorkshire side go into the game three points behind Worcester but, with a vital game in hand, the match has now become a must-win clash for the Sixways club.

And after seeing coaches fired by chairman Cecil Duckworth in recent years, Skeggs is well aware his neck could be on the line if his expensively assembled squad lose out.

He said: "Cecil Duckworth is a guy who wants to get his club in the Premiership. He has put his faith in somebody else and it hasn't happened in the past.

"Most of the times in the past, the reason it hasn't happened was due to mismanagement. I don't think you can say that now.

"The pressure is on and I have to admit I felt more pressure than ever before the Coventry game because of the poor performance at Henley. Of course, it is a worry but at the end of the day -- whether I stay or go at the end of the season is not my call.

"I'd like to stay here because I think the club needs continuity -- that is one of the advantages Leeds have had over us all season."

He added: "There is now a good structure in place at the club but we know the main aim for everyone here was to win promotion.

"I think I've made the club better, I've implemented a lot of things and seen them through. I will admit I was very much a rough diamond at the start of the season but with Geoff Cooke, I think we've combined well and always found a happy medium to our decision making."
