IT'S time for us to get back to basics when we welcome Wakefield to Sixways on Saturday.

I think we have treated the Worcester crowd to a good display against Leeds Tykes but a pretty average show against Bedford so far this season so I am hoping the boys will make you proud of them at the weekend.

Worcester coach Adrian Skeggs was talking to Mark Dobson.

We go into the game seven points clear in National League Division One and the encouraging thing, I think, is that we are still to get anywhere near top form.

My side came away from Coventry on Saturday with, on paper, a fine 34-17 win but there were many aspects of our play I was unhappy with. I once again thought our defence was not as watertight as it should have been -- conceding a try and a number of penalties.

I want no tries against us in a match and I am looking for my side to concede fewer than 10 points from now on this season. Success is always built from a solid base of defence and if we are going to win this league then we have to get the basics right and keep on getting them right week in, week out.

Don't get me wrong, I was delighted with the win and especially the bonus point because, in recent seasons, Worcester have a poor record at Coventry.

I keep hearing people say that Worcester would have lost games like that last season and that is encouraging because it tells me the team have something about them.

The conditions at Barkers Butts Lane were not conducive for great rugby but we started brightly and scored a try in less than a minute. That was probably the most pleasing aspect for me because I thought we started slowly against Bedford a week earlier.

However, we began the game in the right frame of mind with the right tempo to our play. If we can show more of that play in longer spells then we will start to show the true potential of the side.

We should have put 10 tries past Coventry and we have to wonder why we did not and then conceded a try to make life more difficult than it should have been.

At one stage in the match -- midway through the second half -- Coventry came back strongly and really wore their hearts on their sleeves. However, they should not have been allowed to dictate the game and by then we should have wrapped up the game.

Overall though, I was pleased to have come away with the five points because it keeps the good run going and keeps confidence high.

Wakefield have had an indifferent start to the season but have beaten Birmingham & Solihull and Henley and also pushed Exeter pretty hard.

We will once again make a number of changes for the match with Dan Zaltzman, Mathew Back, Neil Lyman and Andrew Lamerton taking a well earned rest. Some of those players have played every game this season and with a big squad, it enables me to change things around.

I certainly see Worcester as a squad of players rather than just a 15 week in, week out. I'd like to think that if all the squad are not on a par ability wise, they are certainly on the same level of focussing on what is needed and expected.

Therefore, I have no worries changing the team because I have confidence in my players. I am still waiting, however, for the side to really show me what they are capable of and hopefully we can really spark into life against Wakefield and give the home crowd a treat.

The supporters deserve a good show after helping us to victory over Bedford because for sure they played a part with their vocal support. It was very much appreciated.
