EVERYBODY in the camp is extraordinarily positive in preparation for our trip to Wakefield on Saturday.

We go into the clash nine points ahead of the rest in National One and with the mid-season break to Malaga just around the corner.

The players are really looking forward to the game and the break and if they can turn on an impressive display in Yorkshire, it will make the Spanish trip all the better.

The team were disappointed with their display against Waterloo on Sunday but if you look at the cold, hard facts - we are not doing too badly. If people compare the situation at Sixways to this time last year, they would see we have made major strides in 12 months. We did not get the bonus point against Waterloo and that was a knock-back but, there is no magic formula to success and you cannot just expect the side to turn on the style week in, week out - there is no panic here. All we need is the support from the fans and for people to be more positive about the club. We are the top side, by nine points and still we have to play the second-placed team this season so our destiny is in our own hands.

We set out our stall to attack on Sunday against the bottom side but then 20 minutes into the game, a rainstorm hit Worcester and conditions turned the game into somewhat of a lottery. Yes, my players should have adapted better to the wet conditions but it was not easy for them. For the record, we scored three tries and came within a whisker of getting the fourth and the bonus point. I think Waterloo deserve an awful lot of credit for their display because they showed guts and quality and played a better game plan in the wet than us.

Second-placed Leeds now have two games in hand and good luck to them, they have done extremely well to stay in touch with us over the last couple of months. However they, like us, have some tricky games coming up and the two postponed games - Exeter and Coventry - will not exactly be easy. I've always said, I not worried about the Leeds game in April. That match will take care of itself but it is the ones in between that concern me. We need to play as consistently in the smaller matches as we do in the so-called big games.

One of the most positive things to come out of the Waterloo game was the performance of the forwards. I think our scrum and our set plays were excellent. Neil Lyman came back into the side and made an instant contribution. He suffered an injury in the Birmingham & Solihull game and we are delighted to have him back because he is a real consistent performer who gives you everything.

It was a difficult day for scrum half Ricky Pellow who I gave the chance to play on what I thought would be a nice, hard pitch at Sixways. Cue the rainstorm which spoilt the game! Ricky gets another opportunity at Wakefield because it would be unfair to take him out the side after one chance. Alistair Murdoch will return at centre because Rudi Keil has a back injury. The skipper missed the Waterloo game through a bout of 'flu but is raring to go for Wakefield. The great news is that Nick Baxter has recovered, quicker than expected, from an eye socket injury that we at first feared needed surgery. He takes his place on the wing, with Spencer Bromley dropping out of the side. Nick has been so positive since he picked up the injury and he will be delighted to get back into the team so quickly.

What I would ask for is support at Wakefield. There is too much doom and gloom about the place at times and we really need to get things into perspective. Yes, we were disappointed not to get the fourth try against Waterloo but a good display in Yorkshire will do wonders for confidence, backed up by the forthcoming Spanish trip. Now we just need that fantastic vocal support I have heard so often at away matches this season.

This campaign is as much about the supporters as the players. We are all in this together and a bit more positive thinking could make the world of difference.
