WORCESTER Rugby Club are set to add another international to their ranks with the signing of flanker Cameron Mather from Edinburgh Reivers.

The 28-year-old Scottish international will put pen to paper at Sixways in the next 48 hours but will not be considered for Saturday's clash with Bedford.

Mather has become increasingly frustrated at Edinburgh over the last few months and, after seeing his side slump to third from bottom in the new Welsh/Scottish league, he has decided to move on.

Worcester have beaten off a host of interested clubs including Leeds Tykes and Llanelli to the player but Mather is just delighted to be on his way.

He said: "I feel the time is right for a change and I expect things to be decided in the next day or two. First and foremost, I am going for a change of scene and it needs to be good quality rugby so I am delighted Worcester have come in for me."

Born in New Zealand, Mather came to Scotland seven years ago and made an immediate impression with some sparkling displays. He won his first Scottish cap against Romania in 1999 and went on to take a full part in Scotland's Six Nations campaign.

Worcester's director of coaching, Adrian Skeggs was delighted with his prospective new signing.

He said: "We hope to have everything in place within the next couple of days but he will not play against Bedford. He needs time to settle in and get some training under his belt.

"We had competition for the player from Leeds so I am delighted he has chosen us. He will bring a number of different qualities to the club. He has played in New Zealand and Scotland so he has a good blend of experience. He is strong, hard and tall and will give us more balance in the back row."

However, Skeggs warned Mather, he is not guaranteed a starting place despite his international credentials.

He said: "He'll have to fight for his place all right. Nobody comes straight into the side because they have to earn the right on the training pitch first."

Meanwhile, Worcester Ladies scrum-half Joanne Yapp and wing Nicky Crawford have both been included in the England women's team to face Canada in Winnipeg this evening.

Fellow team-mate centre Karen Andrew is also included as one of the replacements.
