WORCESTER Rugby Club have included 13 of their summer signings for the training weekend in Cornwall.

They include injury victims Simon Devereux, Rohan Hoffman and Jamie Connelly who are all unlikely to be ready for the new season.

The squad will spend three days in the south-west including a game against a Cornwall President's Select XV at Redruth on Sunday (3pm).

Director of rugby Les Cusworth said the injured players have been selected as it would give them a chance to get acquainted.

"We're using this as a chance for the squad to get to know each other and the weekend will include go-karting and social events," he said.

"The injured players are unlikely to start the new season but they are involved in training and this will help them become part of the squad."

Notable absentees include hooker Dean Ball, stand-off James Lofthouse, centre Rich Tomlinson and wingers Simon Morris and Paul Holford.

But Cusworth stressed their omission did not remove them from first team contention. They are likely to be included in a Worcester side to face Jewson National League One team Lydney.

"They need competitive rugby," added Cusworth. "We've spoken to them all and they are all happy about the situation."
