WORCESTER Rugby Club's new chief executive Geoff Cooke described Saturday's 36-7 victory at Manchester as a "dream performance".

But the former England coach was referring to the fact they won while played poorly rather than already looking like the finished article.

It was the first time Cooke had seen his new club in competitive action in Allied Dunbar Premiership Two and while he was pleased with the two points he saw areas for big improvement.

"It's a good winning start to the league programme but we must improve the performance by 100 per cent," he said.

"We were sloppy in many areas, passing was dreadful all afternoon and we have professional rugby players up against players who train on Tuesdays and Thursday's so we should win.

"We were fitter and better organised and defensively we were quite strong.

"But we made hard work of it due to poor alignment and passing in the backs and slow delivery in the forwards when we needed it to be much quicker.

"For a coach it's a dream performance because the team won without playing that well."

Stand-off Tony Yapp had a hand in almost all of Worcester's scores and was relieved to get his first game over.

Dented

"It's always difficult with a new team at the start of season but people will look at our result and take note," he said.

"Manchester are no mugs and are looking for a top five finish so this has dented their hopes.

"We played well at times and we're still getting to know each other so we'll give someone a real hammering when we get things right.

"Manchester never gave up and said they weren't going to walk off they were going to keep going until they had to crawl off."
