FLYING winger Mat Walker is looking to turn the tables on his old club Rotherham by repeating his sensational Sixways hat-trick.

When the clubs last met in May, Rotherham were still involved in a nail-biting promotion race but swept aside Worcester with a superb Walker hat-trick helping them to a 35-27 victory.

His scores included a solo effort from inside the Rotherham '22,' plus a crucial score seconds into the second-half which effectively killed the game.

"It was great to have a good personal performance but we had been training hard for that game and it was a big day for the team," he said.

"It was my first hat-trick in league rugby and the ball just bounced the right direction for me and I was able to score a few tries.

"I would love to do it again, but I've taken a bang on my leg and there are four or five good wingers at Worcester, but if I'm picked I'll be looking forward to it."

The 21-year-old scored 16 tries last year, including nine in the league, to cap a fine first season in the first team.

He had been involved with Rotherham since the age of seven when he played for their feeder club Dinnington and was a life-long supporter, so it took a number of factors to get him to leave.

"I knew outside centre Greg Austin really well and he was the backs coach and taught me all I knew," added Walker.

"He was on the move and I didn't know who was going to be the new coach, but I knew about the quality of Worcester with coaches Phil Maynard and Les Cusworth so it was a tasty prospect."

And despite switching from one title rival to another, Walker said there are no hard feelings from his old club.

"I still speak to them a couple of times a week but I'm playing for Worcester now and that's the way it's got to be."
