A pub barman who launched a violent attack with a baseball bat after a row in Stourport town centre has been jailed for 12 months.

Aaron Weavers chased and beat Richard Kilgour after having three teeth knocked out by another man, Worcester Crown Court was told.

Mr Kilgour needed ten stitches in a head wound and his cut ear was glued in hospital. He was off work for a fortnight.

Weavers, aged 21, of Bullus Road, Stourport, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm. He was originally accused of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm but a jury was unable to reach a verdict.

Julie Sparrow, prosecuting, said an argument broke out in the early hours of September 30, last year, on the forecourt of the Esso petrol station in Vale Road.

Weavers became involved in a dispute with one of Mr Kilgour's friends and was punched in the mouth. He went home, got a baseball bat, and chased Mr Kilgour until he fell to the floor, when he was struck three times.

Mr Geoffrey Clough, defending, said Mr Kilgour was in a group of people who were attacking Weavers.

But Judge Michael Mott said Weavers had taken the law into his own hands and attacked the wrong person. It must have been a frightening experience for Mr Kilgour.
