ENGLAND'S leading rugby union clubs last night insisted they had no plans for a breakaway in the aftermath of Rob Andrew's resignation.

Andrew quit his role in Club England on Monday over the Rugby Football Union's failure to implement his blueprint for the future.

However, fears that An-drew's resignation could spark a breakaway of Premiership clubs were dismissed by Gloucester chairman Tom Walkinshaw.

He said: "We will not break away, it's never been on the agenda.

"We are waiting on the RFU delivering the plan they sold us. We are investing to deliver the plan and are implementing it as far as we can, everything in our power and governance to do."

Premiership clubs and National League Division One sides -- including Worcester -- are still at loggerheads with the RFU over the thorny issue of promotion and relegation. A new meeting has been called by the RFU to resolve the situation with an independent facilitator later this month.

However, Premiership clubs are still unhappy the RFU have refused to implement a suspension of relegation or promotion to the top level.

Walkinshaw added: "The RFU management board are committed to the Andrew Plan and the play-offs.

"The RFU council are now putting on the table it should be two up, two down, although in April they approved a full ring-fencing of two years with no promotion or relegation whatsoever.

"The council are doing a complete 180 on the decision they made in April," said Walkinshaw.
