LES Cusworth's men sent out a resounding message to the rest of the league on Saturday -- catch us if you can!

Worcester's thumping 84-15 victory at Wakefield, coupled with Leeds' 17-11 reverse at Rotherham, leaves them two points clear at the top of Allied Dunbar Premiership Two.

Their points difference is also such that Leeds will have to beat Worcester by 78 points to topple them from top spot when the top two clash next month.

Before then unbeaten Worcester will be able to stretch their lead even further with a trip to the league's whipping boys West Hartlepool when another cricket score looks probable.

Worcester were unable to field their new hooker Marco Caputo as his registration was not cleared by Twickenham in time.

Centre Shaun Woof made his debut coming on in the first-half for a dazed Andrew Higgins following a crunching challenge in midfield but few individuals stood out in a mismatch between amateurs ad professionals.

Wakefield stayed in touch during the first-half and trailed just 32-15 at the break, but once Worcester were playing down the slope they were unstoppable and completed a 13-try rout.

Tony Yapp's 29-point haul took him past the century marker and the stand-off has now scored 127 points in just seven league games.

"I would like to think this has sent a message to the whole of our league, I would hope it has," said Cusworth.

"I was pleased with the ruthless second-half, we played 40 minutes of quality rugby and that's the pace we've got to be playing after the break.

"Some of the continuity was excellent and some of the tries out of the top drawer."

Back row forward Dave Merlin said: "It's a great scoreline and we really took it to them in them and kept scoring all the way to the end," he said.
