WORCESTER Rugby Club have won the race to sign highly rated centre Scott Barrow from Rugby League giants St Helens.

The 20-year-old is the latest league star to switch codes despite interest from Castleford Tigers and Leigh Centurions last month and he will go straight into Worcester's line-up tonight when the Warriors travel to Bristol United, kick-off 7.30pm.

The Tigers came in for the league half-back after Barrow had been named as a substitute in Saints' Super League grand final win over Wigan Warriors last month.

However, the Sixways side have clinched the youngster's signature after he was released from Knowsley Road earlier this month.

Director of coaching Adrian Skeggs said: "He is a hungry young English player who we know will have good skills because of the level he has played at St Helens.

"He decided he needed a new challenge and I have been impressed with what I've seen of him so far."

Barrow struggled to break into St Helens' side and made just four appearances as substitute last season.

He will play as centre tonight at Bristol with a number of high profile players aiming to stake a claim for Saturday's National Division One clash at London Welsh.

Dan Zaltzman and Brett Scriven continue their comeback from injury while Cameron Mather, Nick Baxter and Ian Calder also start.

Worcester: Calder; Baxter, Barrow, Meredith, McLean; Yapp, Pellow; Hartland, Hall, Benbouhout, Merlin, Zaltzman, Broughton, Mather, Scriven. Reps: Langkilde, Ward, Collins, Moretti.

Meanwhile, the world's most famous rugby player, Jonah Lomu, will appear at Sixways next month. The New Zealand international wing is the star guest at a rugby dinner at Worcester on Wednesday, December 6.

The awesome All Black will be answering questions from guests at the function.
