ASTWOOD Bank have opened up a bumper 37-point lead at the top of Worcestershire Two as they maintained their unbeaten record with victory at home to second-placed Romsley & Hunnington.

And with the season at the halfway mark, captain Alex Robinson is hoping his players can maintain the margin for the remainder of the season.

Heavy overnight rain and leaking covers had put the game in doubt but play finally started at 3pm with the match reduced to 40 overs per side.

"We won the toss and that was crucial," explained the Astwood Bank skipper.

"Everything went our way with Ian Bowes (4-22) and Martin Clayton among the wickets."

Romsley finished their overs on 124-9 with the Bank clinching victory as they reached 125-6.

Bottom club Barnards Green play host to the Sambourne Lane club on Saturday and Robinson is looking for another good win to keep their title charge on target.

"They are not a bad side and have a decent Australian playing for them," he said. "If we can win two of our next three games then we will be able to keep the gap between us and the rest."
