I WOULD like to thank you for your coverage and support of our recent concert in Malvern in aid of the new Acorns Children's Hospice at Worcester.

I would particularly like to commend Mrs Pat Denney's efforts to raise money for her walk along the Great Wall of China in aid of the hospice.

It was a great evening. It thrills me to know that we have such talent in a small town like Malvern.

The quality of the Chase a cappella group under the leadership of Mike Kent-Davies was simply astounding. And as for the Malvern Hills District Brass Band under Chris Lewis - well, words are insufficient.

The evening was a huge success and I can only say to those who did not come that you missed a treat.

I think that too many people were under the misapprehension that brass bands are "oompah" bands and that's all.

Nothing could be further from the truth as was demonstrated by the versatility of our own local band that delighted us with the whole range from classics through marches to show-time and jazz.

A surprise item at the end of the evening was the piano solo by Liam Cartwright of the Chase School.

Donations for the Acorn's Children Hospice or offers to sponsor Pat Denney are still being gratefully received.

JOHN TIMMION,

Malvern.
