PITCHCROFT racecourse was a sea of fashion and colour as a bumper crowd of more than 4,500 enjoyed the traditional Ladies' Day in bright sunshine.

After a winter wash-out, Worcester Racecourse has bounced back in style with a succession of successful meetings.

Classic Gold boss Muff Murfin presented prizes for the best-dressed women, which went to Jane Stilman and Mrs Condliffe, and the big race of the day was won by the hotly tipped Entertainer, which held off Tony McCoy's mount, Arlas, to take the £8,000 prize in the 3.55 Arean Leisure Plc Handicap Class C hurdle race.

In all there were 131 runners and just two non-runners for the seven race card.

"We had a bumper of crowd of more than 4,500 with a lot of women dressing up," said Pitchcroft operations manager, Katherine Self.

"So far this year all our meetings have been up on last year.

"We had a short sharp shower in the morning but then for the rest of the afternoon it was sunny so it was fantastic weather."

Pitchcroft's next meeting is on Wednesday, July 11.
