TWO Worcester skippers are navigating a niche in the market as they launch a river cruise business on the Severn.

Phil Evans and Mike Jones, of Bewdley, decided to offer day trips on their boat, The Silver Mist, after Worcester Tourist Information Office tipped them off.

Staff informed them that they received several requests from tourists for sedate river trips, but none were on offer.

Now the pair have organised a selection of trips on the 1930's Gentleman's Cruiser, including a full day's cruise from Worcester to either Stourport-on-Severn, Upton-upon-Severn or the Tiltridge Vineyard, where up to 12 guests can sample locally produced wine.

"We want to offer a proper, peaceful river trip, where people can bring a picnic and relax and make a day of it," said Mr Evans.

Relaxing

"There is nothing like this on offer in Worcester and it seems a shame that people are missing out on a nice, relaxing experience in beautiful surroundings.

"We're hoping that local people will take advantage of it too. We're doing a trial during July and we'll see how it goes in August and September.

"If we get a good summer then things are looking up," he added.

The pair also take private bookings for a variety of occasions.

"This isn't all a money-making exercise - we want to encourage people to use our lovely river more," said Mr Evans.
