COLWALL'S Dave Powell and Will Hards' heroics with the bat saw Colwall to a two wicket win over league leaders Frocester on Saturday.

COLWALL v FROCESTER

In a tight encounter at Stowe Lane, Colwall were left chasing a difficult target after bowling Frocester out for under 200 runs.

Australian Derek Tate (41) had given Frocester the perfect start with some crashing shots through the mid wicket boundary in the first few overs and matched with John Evans 51 runs set up Frocester for a seemingly large total.

Colwall however fought back well with Will Hards collecting two wickets and James Wagstaff taking Tate's crucial wicket. Dave Sutton's good form with the ball though was paramount to keeping Frocester's total to 198 with an excellent spell of 4-38 off 14 overs.

Following Evans dismissal only Dowey (27) and McShane (25) threatened and Stuart Bailey's expensive but effective six overs brought about three wickets to wrap up the innings.

Tom Wolfendale (28) and Dave Powell gave Colwall the base needed to challenge the target of 199 setting up a rapid 73 runs in 17 overs.

Colwall however struggled through from then on as the impressive Tate collected four wickets for 39 runs and rip through Colwall's middle order. Dave Powell's superb 78 runs though were critical as his well timed shots on both boundaries brought a deserved half century in 65 balls.

His contribution and 35 in 48 balls from Will Hards ensured a tense final few overs with Colwall needing 19 runs off the final five overs but with only three wickets in hand. Hards big hitting though in the latter stages, including a six to secure victory, meant Colwall took away a near maximum point win and a moral boosting result over the league leaders.
