CRAIG Chalmers believes the challenge of propelling Worcester Rugby Club into the Premiership will re-ignite the world class talent within him.

The 32-year-old, who will put pen to paper on a one-year deal today, is determined to make Worcester's dreams come true by guiding them into English rugby's top flight.

Chalmers - Scotland's most capped fly-half - had an up-and-down season last year at Glasgow Caledonians and Harlequins but believes his new club gives him a challenge which will bring out the best in him.

He said: "Getting the club into the Premiership is what everyone wants. Worcester are a very ambitious club and that sort of ambition impresses you. It is a new challenge and that is what you want as a player.

"I am looking for challenges and I am certain this move is a good one for me and the club. I am 32 now but I am fit and raring to go and think I have probably got two or three years of top class rugby left in me.

"Ideally what I, and the club, want is to win promotion this season and then play in the Premiership. That's what I am coming to Worcester for."

The former Melrose ace played a handful of games in the Premiership last season during his loan spell with Quins but it was his performances in two cup semi-finals which made chief executive Geoff Cooke's mind up that Chalmers still had the hunger for success.

Chalmers added: "We have been talking for a wee while but he knows I am still hungry to win things and play at the top level.

"The Premiership is a tough, physical league which is completely different to Scottish rugby.

"However, it is undoubtedly the place to be with all the world-class teams and world-class players. Hopefully this season we can make sure we make Worcester part of that."
