THE Bob McIntyre Memorial meeting, held near Edinburgh last weekend, was special in two ways for Evesham's classic motorcycle racer Jim Curry.

He was guest of honour for the two-day meeting and was asked to present the trophies.

In the process, though, he became a prizewinner himself when he claimed top spot in the 350cc single cylinder classes.

Saturday's action started with Curry leading a parade of former racers for three laps before competing in his first event.

He lay third when the pack had sorted themselves out after the first corner, but then stalked the two leaders for half a lap, passing them both on a fast curve just before the final hairpin and led the race past the chequered flag.

The same format of parade and races took place on Sunday when, Curry, who had the legs of his two previous protagonists in a straight line, decided to leave it to the last lap to pass, to save his motor.

However, he outsmarted himself, moving smoothly into the lead but leaving his braking a fraction too late into the final hairpin.

A gap appeared on the inside which the other two gleefully accepted and the dash to the line saw Curry having to settle for third place.
