A BUSINESS leader is seeking an urgent meeting in a bid to solve a long-running road problem in Stourport which is threatening to grind the town centre to a halt.

Russell Hinton, chairman of Stourport Business Association, will meet with members of the Sandy Lane Business Association in a bid to free-up town centre traffic.

The town association and several High Street firms believe Stourport's one-way system is becoming needlessly clogged with traffic trying to find its way to the Sandy Lane Industrial Estate.

Mr Hinton is blaming a lack of signs pointing the way to Sandy Lane before drivers reach the town.

He said: "It's important something is done because we want the High Street businesses to thrive and customers do get frustrated when they are waiting in cars trying to get through the town centre. There are probably others who may avoid the centre altogether because of this.

"It would be a tremendous benefit for all concerned if drivers coming from outside the area were given better directions before needlessly entering the one-way system.

"We will have the meeting and then see if the county council can help us with funding towards the signs."
