VALE riders are being urged to join local riding clubs which are in turn affiliated to the British Horse Society.

Membership of riding clubs has dropped during the foot and mouth crisis owing to the lack of riding competitions, but there are many benefits to be gained from joining a riding club.

Competitive riders have the chance of working towards national championship level for most disciplines, and for the less competitive riders there are pleasure rides, social activities and the opportunity to socialise with a network of new friends on offer.

British riding club members also receive discounts on a variety of goods and services.

To encourage new members to join their local riding clubs, and to recognise membership loyalty and their support, a grand prize draw has been arranged which has some impressive prizes. The winner will get an Andaluz Adventure to Southern Spain.

And there are exciting runners-up prizes including an overnight theatre trip for two in London, £500 towards a Caribbean holiday and an oil painting of the runner-up's horse by British Horse Society artist Nikki Moore.
