AN Alcester man has been given a very special invitation for the sterling work he has done and the time he has given to the town.

On Wednesday, July 18, High Bailiff Bill Malin will be attending Buckingham Palace for a royal garden party.

And Mr Malin, who is also a town councillor, has spoken of what an honour and surprise it was to receive the exclusive invite.

He said: "Some time ago, my name was put forward to the Lord Chamberlain and I was selected to attend the garden party with my wife, Frankie.

"It is a huge honour. You hear about it happening to other people but you never imagine it happening to you.

"There have been a few people from Alcester invited before but that hasn't been for a long time, so obviously I'm thrilled."

Mayors of areas get their names submitted but despite being a former mayor of Alcester, Mr Malin never had his name picked.

He said: "My name was put forward for services to the town so there's many people who would be deserving of this.

"But I'm thrilled I was asked, my wife and I are extremely excited about this.

"The invitation was very strict about what should be worn.

"Ladies should be dressed in a day dress with a hat, or uniform if applicable and men also have to dress very smartly.

"We're looking forward to this aspect of it, it's nice to get dressed-up for something so very special."
