A HIGH profile police campaign to stamp out anti-social behaviour in Studley has born fruit after six arrests in connection with drugs.

The news comes after Warwickshire Police stepped up evening patrols in the village at the beginning of May.

Villagers have complained for years about unruly and drunken youths loitering in certain areas of Studley and the police were keen to respond to requests for more patrols.

Since the start of May, 28 searches were carried out for drugs and a significant quantity of alcohol confiscated by police.

Three people were cautioned for drugs and another three bailed to return to Leamington Police Station in August.

Insp Sarah Goodall, of Alcester police, said: "We have been trying to target antisocial behaviour in Studley and upped our patrols considerably.

"We've been listening to concerns and recognise there's been an increase in anti-social behaviour."

Insp Goodall added: "I do recognise though that there are a lot of kids who are behaving and that's why we are pushing this youth shelter scheme in the village."

Studley Parish Council has already agreed to support the initiative which would create a focal point for young people, similar to successful schemes elsewhere in the country.

But Insp Goodall acknowledged there was still work to be done.

"Studley hasn't got an unusual problem but its unfortunate that a lot of the kids congregate in areas like Marble Alley that are likely to affect other people."
