BOARD game players are being urged to jump at the chance of joining a new organisation.

Bromsgrove Draughts Club will be launched on July 6 by England international Tony Boyle.

The Sidemoor resident ran the Bromsgrove Seriously Board Club for three years but it folded because he could not find enough adults to help supervise the children who attended.

He said: "I found adults don't take to a board games club because they prefer one particular game. And they weren't keen on helping the children.

"I tried to keep everyone happy but it didn't work.

"We've decided to concentrate on one game this time. It's vital that youngsters start playing draughts or it will die out at a competitive level."

Tony, the English Draughts Assoc-iation's youth officer, is hopeful of securing the services of senior players from around the Midlands to help run the club.

Members will meet at Arden House, Burcot Lane, every other Friday from 7pm until 10pm. Each session will cost £1.50.

As well as playing the English version of the game, Tony will offer people the chance to try the international variation.

It is played on a 100-square board with a different set of rules.

Tony is also setting up a draughts club in Redditch, starting on July 29.
