THERE seems to be a disproportionate number of anti-European letters published in You Say recently.

I do not know whether this is due to editorial policy, pro-Europeans lack of writing skills, or most people's boredom with the histrionic outbursts of many of the letters you publish.

Common sense dictates that we listen to the arguments and, at the appropriate time, make our views known in the promised referendum.

For my part I think we have a lot to learn from Europe. We have, for too long, wrapped ourselves in the Union Jack and sailed gently into the past.

Times have changed and Britannia no longer rules the waves, much to the disgust, it seems, of most of your letter writers.

Many of your anti-European letter writers must recall with affection that famous newspaper headline of the Victorian era: "Fog in English Channel, Europe Cut Off ".
