AN AMAZING innings from Paul Jones helped Bretforton record an incredible Worcestershire Club League win over Redditch on Sunday.

The Cotswold Hills League Premier Division side welcome back Jones, Jon Gregory and Daryl Mitchell back into their ranks for their Sunday league outings but the latter pair were forced to take a back seat as Jones set about the Redditch bowling.

Merry and Busfield had quickly tore into the Bretforton reply, including the removal of Stratford player Mitchell for a duck as the hosts chased 178 for victory.

However, Gregory, like Jones, on leave from Evesham, stuck around to help his partner start a most improbable recovery until Merry grabbed the second of five cheap wickets.

Victory still looked a long way off when Tombs joined Jones after a brace of middle order ducks had left just three men back in the pavilion.

Tombs was the only other batsmen to reach double figures - extras was second top scorer with 39 - but it was Jones who took all the accolades as he reached his century.

The result was still in doubt when last man Jelfs joined Jones in the middle but he hung around long enough to ensure the Sunday star's knock wasn't in vain.

Jelfs had earlier taken 3-27 as Redditch totalled 177-7 - Jones and Gregory starting a good all-round performance with fine spells with the ball - but it didn't prove enough as Jones single-handedly steered Bretforton to a one-wicket triumph.
