REDDITCH ambulance crews were called to more than one road traffic accident an hour last Wednesday.

The unusual spate was described by paramedic Frank Knight, of Redditch ambulance station, as strange and unexplained.

And the string of road accidents, none of which resulted in any serious injury, were the only type of incident paramedics were called to all day.

Mr Knight said: "There was just a rash of car accidents.

"We ended up taking eight patients on spinal boards to casualty.

" They occurred all over the area. It could have been the warm weather."

Mr Knight said they were called to nine separate road accidents over an eight-hour period.

He added: "I couldn't put my finger on why there were such a lot.

"We were not called to anything different that day."
