CHADDESLEY Corbett suffered defeat in the National Village Championships area final for the third successive year at the hands of Colwall.

The Herefordshire visitors won by five wickets in the penultimate over on Sunday.

Chaddesley gave a spirited display but could not overcome the handicap of losing early wickets.

Having been put in to bat, Chaddesley were 49-4 after 13 overs.

Swing bowler Bailey took three of the wickets as Chaddesley's batsmen gave their wickets away with poor shots.

John Masefield then joined George Baylis and turned the game round.

When the former was dismissed for 32 in the 31st over, the score had reached 137.

Chaddesley had a chance to reach 200 but Baylis followed just two overs later, holing out to long-on for 53 from 80 balls.

Nick White made some useful runs but ran out of partners as Chaddesley were bowled out for 169 with eight balls unused.

In reply, Colwall also lost early wickets. Ian Chambers (2-21), Andy Elbro (1-33) and Paul Connolly (1-32) bowled excellent spells.

When Tom Boden claimed Ferguson's wicket with the score at 97, 73 runs were still needed from as many balls.

Two balls later, Bennett sliced his second ball to deep extra cover where the catch was spilled.

Despite Elbro finally have Bamford LBW for a painstaking 33 in as many overs, Bennett's 36 not out saw Colwall home.

Chaddesley 169, Colwall 170-5.

Chaddesley continued their good form in Worcestershire League Division One at Worcester Nomads, winning by four wickets.

Chaddesley did well to restrict Nomads to 212-8 before an opening stand of 133 made the chase simple for the middle order.

Nomads' openers Jones and Rees put on an excellent 126 for the first wicket before John Riches (4-32) took the first of his wickets, bowling Jones for 73.

Rees was calmed down by Riches and Mark Edwards, bowling accurate seamers up the hill.

Andy Elbro's brilliant throw ran Rees out for 58 and only Jinks (24) made any further impression.

A flurry of early boundaries set Chaddesley on their way before Matt Boden attacked the spinner.

He chipped to mid-on for 58 and though Edwards followed 14 runs later, only 59 were needed from the last 20 overs.

Kevin Truswell drove to cover point for 73 but this only brought in Andy Baylis who smashed 31 from 11 balls, including three sixes and three fours.

Chaddesley cruised home with almost eight overs left.

Nomads 212-8, Chaddesley 218-6.

Chaddesley seconds continued to show promise, thrashing Worcester Nomads by eight wickets.

After winning the toss for the fourth week in a row, Chaddesley's opening bowlers rewarded the decision with accurate spells.

T Boden continued his good form with 2-13 in his seven-over burst to leave Nomads at 30-2.

The Worcester side were let off the hook a little until Tom Mole took two quick wickets to reduce them to 140-6.

T Boden (5-28 off 11 overs) returned to the attack to take his second five-wicket haul in as many matches.

In reply, Chaddesley were never in any danger against ordinary bowling.

Rob Stephens scored his fifth 50 of the season in only his seventh bat and Martin Grange was 51 not out to see Chaddesley home with 21 overs to spare.

Worcester Nomads 168, Chaddesley 169-2.
