HEREFORD United boss, Graham Turner, has criticised the decision by Football League chairmen to reject plans for an extra Nationwide Conference promotion place next season.

The Bulls' Director of Football labelled it a betrayal and has called for a more aggressive campaign from supporters to force the league to change the system.

He told Hereford's Clubcall that Football League claims they were committed to changes were "garbage".

"We have been begging at the rich man's table for quite some time and not even getting any crumbs," he said.

"They just give us a pat on the head and tell us to go away and come back with some more plans.

"I doubt whether we will see any change in my lifetime, we need a massive change of tack and we need a more aggressive campaign."

Turner said the FA was the only organisation that could bring about the changes and urged them to take action.

"They are supposed to look after grassroots football, well let's see them do it," he said.

The Bulls' boss had been confident prior to the vote that the FA chairmen would vote for an increase in promotion places.

"We are obviously devastated by the news. A lot of work has gone into it and we were confident it would go through.

"It is time to get the supporters involved. As chairmen we come and go but supporters are committed for a lifetime.

"We need to get supporters throughout the Conference to unite.

"It is plainly obvious that the clubs and chairmen negotiating committee will not bring about more promotion places."
