TWENTY five Toppers descended on Avon SC for what was in fact the first of the South West Traveller Series on Saturday.

The first race was sailed in light winds and last year's winner Andy Harding took an early lead, but local knowledge enabled Alistair Lucas to hold second place for most of the race before being overhauled by Ros Davies and Nathan Batchelor. The second race started in fresher winds but had to be abandoned when the rain came killing the wind.

Fortunately the wind re-appeared in time for a restart with Harding and Davies again showing consistent form with Will Edwards from British Steel third and Tim Simon from Avon fourth.

The final race was again won by Harding, followed by Batchelor and Davies. An enjoyable day was had by all with some very close mid fleet racing.

RESULTS: 1 A Harding - Upton Warren, 2 R Davies - Chew Valley, 3 N Batchelor - Clevedon, 4 Will Davies - Chew Valley.
