MALVERN United Angling Association held their AGM and prize giving evening at the Newtown Club recently.

With over 30 members attending the Chairman expressed his belief that the club was thriving and thanked members for their support.

In his report the club secretary, Mick Perks said that the River Severn had shown good form in early season with a 33-7-0 bag of bream being taken by Dave Harris on the opening weekend. But severe flooding from September onwards and of course more recently the foot and mouth disease had put paid to fishing the river for the rest of the season.

The club's pool at Mathon continued to develop with several good weights being taken by pleasure and match anglers alike, most notably 44-10-0 taken by club treasurer John Shaw.

Trophies were presented by the club's longest standing member Ron Thomas and a buffet was provided by the committee.

Thanks go to the Newtown Club for once again hosting the event.

The pool which has been closed due to the foot and mouth crisis, it is now open again, but the club's stretch of the River Severn will not be available at the start of the season so all contests until further notice will be fished on the pool.
