BARNARDS Green under 16s made the short journey to local rivals Malvern Ramblers.

MALVERN RAMBLERS U16s v BARNARDS GREEN U16s

Green won the toss and put the home side in to bat, after a steady start Ramblers lost their first wicket, Prosser for just one, in the sixth over. The Ramblers middle order fought well but the eight man bowling attack from Barnards Green was proving hard to score against, the pick of these being Rob Harker (4 overs 2-9) who bowled the only maiden of the game! He was well supported by Jason Wyatt and newcomer Luke Marshall. At the end of Ramblers allotted 20 overs they managed just 76 for the loss of 6 wickets, the only batsman to trouble the scorers was Cullen who was unbeaten on 23.

Barnards Green started carefully against opening bowlers J Morriarty and S Dennis but it didn't take long for young Lee Hooper to get his eye in and he started to hit the ball cleanly to all parts of the ground, Matt Brookes (9) supported him well, rotating the strike, when he fell, bowled by Sutton in the ninth over the damage was done. Two overs later Hooper hit his ninth boundary with a huge six thus taking the Green home to a comfortable victory with nine overs remaining and nine wickets in hand.

PERSHORE UNDER 15S v

MALVERN RAMBLERS UNDER 15S

RAMBLERS travelled to Pershore for the second county round of the SunBank Cup with a team depleted by exams and a school match.

Mark Hooper again lost the toss and having elected to bat Pershore skipper Handley hit out aggressively. A well judged catch by Chris Prosser off Andy Sutton removed Davies but Handley powered his way to 50 before Hooper bowled him for 50. Hooper gained a second wicket and a good catch by Matt Hipwell gave Prosser a wicket but the Bales brothers had kept the run rate going and with big hitting in the final over gave Pershore a total of 141-4.

Ramblers' reply started poorly with Hooper falling in the first over but Hipwell and Prosser steadied the ship. An attractive stand between Andy Cullen (27) and Paul Dovey (26) kept Ramblers in the hunt and with Jon Dovey and Nick Rogers making useful contributions the comparative scores at the end of the 18th over saw Ramblers ahead of Pershore's total. However wickets had fallen and the visitors could only scramble 10 runs off the final two overs to give Pershore a deserved 22 run victory.

OLD ELIZABETHANS UNDER 14S v MALVERN RAMBLERS UNDER 14S

AFTER a quiet first over Ramblers openers Niall Hacking and Jon Dovey launched into the home attack smashing the ball all over the ground.

Hacking reached 30 before in only the sixth over he was caught attempting another big hit. David Knapper joined Jon Dovey and the pair thrashed all the OEs attack adding 69 in quick time before Jackson dismissed Knapper for 28 and then Dovey for 39. Andy Cullen and Adam Croad saw the total to 129-4 off the 16 overs.

The home side openers could not progress quickly against the attack of Andy Vaughan and Richard Poole, the score having only reached 19 in the sixth over when Poole removed Marshall. Will Bayliss bowled Hopwood and with Ian Hughes and Stewart Lancett bowling well OEs could not accelerate. Jon Dovey joined the attack and claimed two victims as the home side stuttered to 77-4 giving Ramblers victory by 52 runs.

COLWALL U11S v BARNARDS GREEN U11s

COLWALL U11s entertained Barnards Green recently on the Ghost Meadow.

Winning the toss and batting first, the young Colwall side found runs hard to come by against some accurate bowling. With wickets tumbling, thanks to two fine catches from Richard Tuck and Liam Paddock, the final score was a disappointing 208.

In reply, Colwall bowled with great spirit to keep the game in the balance until the final over. Nine wickets fell with two each for Christian Elsden, Alex Johnson and Stephen Coffey, and one for Cadan Pryor, Jed Hornyold and, off the last ball Nicky Hall. However, Barnards Green had secured their victory by two runs.

COLWALL Girls played their second game in the Michael Parkinson Trophy beating Evesham CC by two runs in a thrilling last over finish.

The generosity of the Colwall captain Emma Smith in allowing Evesham to borrow three Colwall players was nearly the side's downfall as wickets began to tumble with lots of run outs. A good innings by Jenny O'Toole (9), a four by Laura Berry and nine runs by Amy Smith took Colwall to 219 in the last over.

Colwall's next game is at home against Barnt Green on Monday (June 18) 6.15pm start.
