GREEN played their second Worcestershire Clubs League game on Sunday at North End Lane against Birmingham League side Bromsgrove.

BARNARDS GREEN 1ST XI v BROMSGROVE 1ST XI

Batting first the home side made a steady start before Jez Clarke charged Mortlock: Paul Drinkwater and Richard Williams took the score to 97 in the 25th over before the former slapped a return catch to Duffy. It was from this point that Williams, joined by Chris Hill, began to unfurl the complete range of shots.

This pair put on 125 in 12 overs before Hill (39) was run out. Williams was eventually dismissed, caught at deep mid-wicket for a faultless 157, including eight 6s and 16 4s, scored off 126 balls. This left the Green with a total of 257-5 off their 45 overs.

Any thoughts of an easy victory were quickly dispensed as Evenson set about the home attack, supported by Hope, as the score raced to 42 off the first six overs. The introduction of Chris Hill and skipper Andy Lamb applied the brakes and Hill achieved the breakthrough bowling Hope and inducing a false shot from Jerome Connor to leave the visitors on 52-2 off 12 overs.

The Green failed to take chances offered and only Lamb was able to keep the run rate down. Evenson completed a fine century, Keyte a solid 50 and visitors skipper Duffy compiled a steady 36 to see Broms-grove home in the penultimate over.

Whilst the Green lost, the match will be remembered for as good a batting display by a home batsman at North End Lane for many years - it was also Richard Williams highest individual score.
