THE future of girls football is on the agenda at an open meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting, at University College, Worcester, begins at 7.15pm and the main topic of discussion concerns the development of the Girl's Football Active Sports programme in Worcestershire.

Following the success of the first year application to the Sport England Lottery fund for the Worcestershire All Sports Partnership Active Sports programme, the partnership are now looking to develop new sports for the second year application.

One of the sports will be girls football, and the meeting has been arranged to promote the scheme, raise awareness, and invite people with an interest in the sport to have a say in the future development of the Girls Football Active Sports programme.

The meeting is open to all, and organisers are particularly keen to see players, coaches, referees, club administrators, parents and volunteers - from existing clubs.

Budding players have also been invited to attend the meeting to find out how they can become involved in the scheme. Anyone wishing to attend should call Jane Booth, active sports manager, on 01905 855537 to find out further details.

n One of the events kicking off this year's Carnival celebrations will be the sixth running of the Pitchcroft 10K and fun run.

Following close on the heals of the Race for Life event running this weekend, both races follow a similar route around the race course.

This popular event, which this year will be held on July 1, provides the opportunity for both the first timer or more serious runner to 'enjoy' a run around a flat fast traffic free course in Worcester.

The fun run which starts at 10. 30am is two and a half kilometres long and will be started by the Carnival Rosebud.

Each runner will receive a certificate and people are being encouraged to come in fancy dress. The 10K race starts at 11.00am and will started by the Carnival Queen.

There are prizes in various age groups. In addition each runner will receive a medal and there will be some prizes.
