BROMYARD tennis player Tracey Powell is aiming for her fifth straight singles title and seventh in total at this weekend's Hereford and Worcester County Closed Lawn Tennis Championships.

Powell, who plays national club league tennis with Barnt Green, plays Jackie Burton in the semi-finals.

In the men's single's, Colin Bennett is aiming to make it a hat-trick of titles after winning the last two years.

The Ross-on-Wye player is also competing in pre-qualifiers for Wimbledon.

Fourteen events are taking place at Malvern's Manor Park Tennis Club on Saturday and Sunday with the promise of lots of good tennis from all age ranges.

As well as doubles events there is a veteran over 45s and over 55s for singles and doubles.

Bromsgrove's, Dean Swingler and Nigel Jones, will be defending the men's doubles title.

Tracey Powell, who the the ladies' doubles championship last year with Frances Eckersley, is partnered this time round by Liz Veale.

The semi-finals start tomorrow at 10.30am and on Sunday, the finals are due to start at 1.30pm.
