A CONCERT in Worcester Cathedral has raised around £9,000 for the Cancer Research Campaign.
The event last Saturday (June 9) was organised by the chairman of Malvern Hills District Council, Barbara Williams, in memory of her husband Andrew, who died of cancer last year.
Performing to a packed audience were soprano Maria Moll, The Ferndale Singers, Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra and the Birmingham Symphony Chorus. The evening was compered by Dave Bradley, from BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester.
"It was lovely," said Coun Williams. "There must have been 200 voices singing and they almost lifted the roof off the cathedral, it was absolutely brilliant."
So far, the Andrew Williams Memorial Fund has raised around £37,000 for cancer research.
Coun Williams is now in training for a fundraising trek along the Great Wall of China in October. She is aiming to raise £2,500 before she leaves and has currently amassed £1,700 in sponsorship. Anyone interested in sponsoring her should call 01886 888120.
