Dates for your diary: Colwall Singers at Colwall Village Hall on June 26 at 8pm present Songs from Around the World in aid of St Michael's Hospice.

True village cricket in miniature, in the form of a Junior 6-A-Side Tournament between sides from smaller communities in the Three Counties, will take place on Sunday (June 17) at West Malvern Cricket Club's delightful tree-fringed ground at Mathon Lodge. Teams from West Malvern, Down Hatherley, Aston Ingham, Dymock, Eastnor and Bushley will play a series of preliminary matches staring at 11am, culminating in a final starting at 6pm. With free admission, plus a barbecue, teas and ice cream, a delightful traditional English summer afternoon in a beautiful country setting is in prospect - all that's needed is the right weather! Everyone will be welcome.

The Cricket Club will be represented at another village summer celebration, the fete in the grounds of St James's School on July 14.

Members will be running a stall featuring videos, CDs records, books and computer games. Items can be left with Paul at the Post Office as well as with Cricket Club committee members.

Also becoming something of an institution in the village's summer calendar is the Allotment Association's annual barbecue, scheduled this year for Sunday July 8 starting at the allotments around 4pm.

All West Malvern allotment holders are automatically members of the Association and welcome to attend. Most of the plots are now looking well, although it has been a tough season on the heavy ground, following a wet winter and cold late spring.

The barbecue should provide a good chance to leave the tools in the shed, admire the crops and share moans about pests and diseases. Unconfirmed rumours are also circulating about a barrel of beer....
