HUNDREDS of Kidderminster people are up in arms at plans by fast food giant McDonald's for a third restaurant in the town.

Wood Street and Park Street residents fear the traffic implications and also an increase in anti-social behaviour as a result of the development.

A bid for a restaurant on land next to Park Street and the ring road island at Bewdley Road, cleared many years ago for the aborted fifth stage of the ring road development, was thrown out by Wyre Forest district councillors last year.

They are now due to make a site visit after the plan was re-submitted and their findings will be discussed by the council's planning committee on Tuesday.

But a spokesman for RAM (Residents Against McDonald's), Andrew Wallace, said more than 1,000 signatures had been collected on a petition against the plan, which will be handed over by ward councillor, Rachel Lewis.

He said it was "not the right site" for a restaurant and residents would show the strength of feeling against the plan.

"We've been campaigning for years to get traffic restrictions but we don't need a McDonald's to get them," added Mr Wallace.

If given permission, the restaurant would be the third in the town after outlets in Worcester Street and off Worcester Road.
